Not Enough Staff. No Budget. AI That Needs Fixing. Sound Familiar?

We asked. You answered.

By Better Together Agency

We put a simple question out on LinkedIn: What is actually stopping your team from creating consistent, high-quality communications?

Here is what you said

  • Not enough staff, 50%
  • Budget constraints, 13%
  • Time fixing AI outputs, 13%
  • All of the above, 25%

Half of the people who responded pointed to the same blocker: not enough staff. Another 25% said it is all of the above. Not enough people, not enough budget, and too much time spent cleaning up AI outputs that do not sound anything like them.

Only 13% pointed to the budget alone. And 13% said the real drain is fixing what AI gets wrong.

These were not responses from one industry. They came from communicators, directors, managers, and team leads across sectors. All running lean. All are expected to produce consistent, high-quality communications with limited capacity.

Here is what the data tells us: this is not just a staffing problem. It is a capacity and trust problem. Dropping a generic AI tool into that situation does not fix it. It adds a new task to an already full plate.

The Capacity Problem Is Real, and It Is Getting Worse

If you run communications for a small or mid-size organization, you already know this story. You are expected to produce press releases, talking points, social content, reports, and rapid-response messaging, often with a team of two or three people, sometimes fewer.

When someone leaves, their institutional knowledge walks out with them. When budgets get cut, the communications function is usually the first to feel it.

The result is messaging that is reactive, inconsistent, and exhausting to maintain. Your audience deserves better. Your work demands better. But the bandwidth is not there, and that gap keeps widening as expectations for content volume and quality continue to rise.

Among nonprofits alone, 92% are now using AI, and only 7% say it is making a real, strategic difference. That gap exists because generic tools were not built for specific organizations.

Generic AI Does Not Fix It. It Just Moves the Work.

Many teams have tried the obvious solution: use a general-purpose AI tool, copy and paste, and hope for the best. Here is what actually happens. You spend 20 minutes writing a prompt, get something that is close but off-brand, then spend another 30 minutes editing it back into your voice.

That 13% who said “time fixing AI outputs” is their top challenge? They are not wrong. And for the 25% who said “all of the above,” that rework stacks on top of everything else.

Generic AI does not know your organization. It does not know your audience, your values, or the specific way you talk about your work. It pulls from the open internet, which means it can produce content that is off-brand, tone-deaf, or factually wrong. And you will not always catch it before it goes out.

The problem is not AI. It is AI that was not built for your work.

Better Together Agency’s annual Biases in Generative AI survey found that 92% of consumers expect companies to take action on AI bias, and one in three said they would stop using a product they believed was biased. That is not a fringe concern. It is a business risk that shows up in your communications every day.

What Private, Zero-Prompt AI Actually Looks Like

There is a different way to think about this. Imagine AI trained on your materials, your reports, your messaging documents, your past campaigns, so it already knows how you sound before you type a single word.

That is what zero-prompt AI means. No prompt engineering. No starting from scratch. You open it, and a draft in your voice is ready in seconds.

“Private” means your data stays yours. It is never used to train public AI models. It never leaves your environment. For organizations handling sensitive data, whether that is client information, internal strategy, or community insights, that is not optional. It is a requirement.

Built-in bias detection means every output gets scanned across dimensions like race, gender, age, disability, income, and geography before it reaches your audience. For teams whose work is rooted in equity and trust, that layer of accountability is not a feature. It is the foundation.

This Is What TogetherAI Was Built For

Better Together Agency built TogetherAI to give organizations the communications capacity of a full team, without the overhead of hiring one. It is built on your own messaging, data, and reports, so every output reflects your voice and your work.

  • Increases capacity without adding headcount
  • Drafts consistent messaging your whole team can use
  • Advances your mission with communications that sound like you, every time

It onboards in days, not months. It is built for organizations that need to move fast, stay consistent, and protect the trust of the people they serve.

It is not a shortcut. It is a smarter way to work. And it is certified to back that up: SOC 2 Type 2 and Google CASA Tier 2.

Teams using AI-powered workflow tools like TogetherAI save 10 to 15 hours per team member per week. Campaign planning that used to take weeks gets done in an afternoon. Teams report managing triple the workload without hiring new staff.

The Shift That Is Already Happening

Across industries, lean teams are moving away from generic AI tools toward private, organization-specific AI that fits the way they actually operate.

The poll results are not a nonprofit problem or a tech problem or a corporate social responsibility problem. They are a capacity problem. And it shows up the same way whether you are running advocacy campaigns, managing a brand, or leading a social impact initiative.

The organizations making this shift early are spending less time fixing outputs and more time doing the work that matters. That is the trend worth paying attention to.
